The members of Co.E, 14th Regiment, at a meeting

                                  CIVIL WAR FIGHTER



                      Wounded Twice by Rebel Bullets at Bull Run.




     Captain George Sharpe Elcock, 75 years old of 26 Halsey street, a veteran of the
Civil War, died this morning at his residence after a month's illness of kidney trouble.
Captain Elcock was born in New York City and had lived in Brooklyn most of his
lifetime.  He enlisted for the Civil War as a private in Company E of the "Fighting
Fourteenth" Regiment of Brooklyn and fought with those famous "Red Legged Devils"
in all their hard battles throughout the war.  He was twice wounded by Rebel bullets
which hit him in the leg at the battle of Bull Run and was promoted several times for
bravery in battle until he became captain of his company.

     After the war, Captain Elcock came back to Brooklyn to live, and for more than
thirty years, until a year ago when he retired, he had been connected with the city
Department of Bridges.  He was a member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion
of the United States, and of the Seventeenth Assembly District Democratic Club.

     Captain Elcock is survived by his wife Jane Murray; a son William R. Elcock
of Detroit, Michigan; and a daughter, Mrs. Estelle Plowright of Brooklyn.  The
funeral services, on Friday evening, will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Frank M.
Townly, rector of St. Bartholomew's P. E. Church, and the interment, on
Saturday, will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
