General Affidavit
State Of New York, County of Kings as:
In the matter of John W. Redding
ON THIS day of A.D. 18 , personally
Appeared before me a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly
authorized to administer oaths aged 60 years, a resident of Brooklyn, in the
County of Kings, and state of New York whose Post Office address is 150 21st
Street Brooklyn, N.Y. well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and
who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
That he was Orderly Sgt of Company "A" 14th Regt N.Y.S.M. Or 84th N.Y.
Vols and was present at the second Battle of Bull Run, and was well acquainted
at the time with John W. Redding who was the Lieutenant commanding said
Company.
About dusk on the 29th day of August 1862, said Lieut. Redding was
struck by pieces of a shell and injured in his left arm, causing a compound
fracture of the said arm.
That the claimant was carried to the rear to the field hospital. Affiant
Knows the above facts by reason of his being present at said battle and seeing
the said claimant fall and affiant Knows the claimant was in line of his duty
when said wound was received.
He further declare that he has no interest in said case and is not
concerned in its prosecution.
